The
Pelonis Disk Furnace V (HC-461) is the latest in well designed Fan
Forced Ceramic Space Heaters that consistently raise the bar for
efficient portable electric heating.
The DFV is one of the most compact out there yet it packs a serious
punch when it comes to turning 1500 watts of power into usable heat,
this thanks in large to their patented ceramic disk design that
optimized the heat for wattage value by nearly 80%, in other words,
the power you put in produces nearly 80% more heat!
For example, the typical forced air conventional element heater
produces 140 f degrees at 1500 watts but the Pelonis DFV produces
a respectable 228 f degrees at the same wattage!
With all that heat, now you need to distribute it into the room
and the DFV does that with a ball bearing (not bushing) variable
speed fan motor and a tunnel design that brings in the cold air
through an easy clean particle filter and exhausts it as a steady
stream of heat, a journey of under 5 inches in a perfectly tubular,
cool to the touch, ducted fan which forces the heat out two feet
where it then begins to rise.
Controls are all digital and easy to read and understand on the
lower side panel. Set the temperature you want (easy to read large LED), push the Power button and let it do the rest... but before
you do that, always be sure
to read and setup per included instructions.
Once your target temperature
nears, the heater will automatically wind down, lowering heat output,
energy use and fan speed (low power mode = 700 watts or fan only
idle mode at 7 watts), which is supposed to constantly monitor and
adjust to maintain a constant room temperature...we still prefer
the more efficient on off thermostatic control.
The DFV is one of few portable heaters actually designed to run
for long periods of time at a stretch.
Easy to set up and move thanks to its compact size (Overall
unit size is LxWxH: 9.3" x 7.1" x 9.5" Weight: 5 lbs. Power: 110-120V/60Hz
Color: Black) and safe
to use when directions are followed.
Safety features include overheat protection, front / side tip over
off switch, power off auto reset (when the power goes off, you cannot
just plug it in and go you need to reset your temps and then push
the power ON button).
Bright LEDS in the front let you know when power is on and temperature
set controls are active, visible day or night.
Cleaning the rear mounted filter occasionally is a good idea for
best performance with a simple pop out then water rinse and dry
in under 5 minutes.
We have found the DFV to be very efficient... (sample room tested
was 8' X 9'), heat from 58 degrees f to 69 f...28 minutes vs. a single
conventional (1500 watt) "milk house heater" took 60 minutes to go
from 58 degrees to 69 degrees in the same room. That represents
a conservative 53% savings for the Pelonis in both time to heat
and power saved.
All in all, the Pelonis HC 461 DFV is a well designed ( almost over-designed)
product with few problems.
The Pelonis name is backed up by personal service and knowledgeable
people, everyone there seems to live and breathe the product as
information was abundant and if you want more technical info, simply
drop by their website and you can find a lot of great information
on their products, they do information very well!
